As we age, our collagen and elastin production tends to decrease. Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body. Elastin is a key protein that allows our skin to retain elasticity. Both help to form connective tissue and hold the body together. They play a major role in skin elasticity and youthfulness.

Thanks to incredible advances in cosmetic sciences, there are ways around the issue of decreased production that have now become straightforward to perform.

How does a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Facial work?

A PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) facial is a highly-scientific and non surgical cosmetic procedure whereby a small amount of your blood is taken and placed into a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. There are two types of plasma produced, platelet poor plasma and platelet rich plasma. The platelet rich plasma is what gives the PRP facial it's many powerful benefits, and also it's nickname - the 'vampire facial'.

How long does a typical treatment session take?

A typical PRP treatment session usually takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The process includes a quick blood draw, which takes just a few minutes, followed by a short centrifuge cycle to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the blood. Once the PRP is prepared, it is applied to the face, which can take around 20 to 30 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

What downtime is associated with a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Facial treatment?

PRP facial treatments are minimally invasive and generally require little to no downtime. Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately following the procedure. However, mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity at the treatment site may occur, typically resolving within 24 to 48 hours.

When will I see results, and how long can I expect them to last?

Results from a PRP facial treatment typically begin to appear within two to three weeks, as the growth factors in the PRP stimulate collagen and elastin production, enhancing skin tone and texture over time. Full results are generally visible after several weeks, with improvements continuing as collagen production increases.

The effects of PRP can last several months, often around 12 to 18 months, depending on individual skin type, lifestyle factors, and skincare regimen. For optimal results, maintenance treatments are recommended every 6 to 12 months.

Thank you for clarifying! Here’s the updated content focused on PRP facials:

How will PRP affect my face?

PRP contains growth factors that stimulate collagen and elastin production, which can help reverse signs of ageing and promote smoother, younger-looking skin.

What can PRP be used to treat?

PRP is effective for rejuvenating the face and can also treat specific concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other types of scars, as well as stretch marks.

What can I expect during treatment?

During a PRP facial, a small blood sample is taken, then processed in a centrifuge to extract the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This PRP is then applied to the face, either through direct injection or combined with microneedling, to enhance its rejuvenating effects.
